# An AI phone receptionist for tradespeople: is there still room in 2027?

Updated : 2026-10-24 · Source : https://legalrapide.fr/en/entreprendre/pistes/standard-telephonique-ia-artisans/

The general-purpose AI phone receptionist for tradespeople is **already a crowded field in France**: we found at least seven offers, one of them dedicated to independent garages. The opening that remains, in our view, is **a specific trade or area, with setup and follow-up in person**. Before building anything, ten interviews and a log of missed calls are enough to decide. Since 2 August 2026, a voice agent must identify itself as an AI, and recording calls means informing every caller.

## What we observed
On Product Hunt, launches of AI receptionists for small businesses kept coming in 2025 and 2026: for example [Relay](https://www.producthunt.com/products/relay-20) (a website turned into a receptionist that books appointments) or [Dena](https://www.producthunt.com/products/dena) (a phone agent for freelancers). In France, offers already target tradespeople:

| Offer | Stated positioning |
|---|---|
| [Standardia](https://standardia.fr/) | AI phone receptionist for independent garages, appointment booking and SMS confirmation |
| [Sylen](https://sylen.ai/solutions/garage-auto) | AI voice agent with a page dedicated to car garages |
| [Callsens](https://callsens.fr/) | AI remote secretarial service and phone answering for tradespeople |
| [Accueil IA](https://accueil-ia.fr/) | AI phone receptionist for tradespeople out on jobs |
| [Eliocall](https://eliocall.com/) | AI phone receptionist for businesses, tradespeople and SMEs |
| [Sayelo](https://sayelo.ai/) | AI voice agent for micro-businesses, SMEs and the liberal professions |
| [Kynara](https://kynara.fr/) | AI phone receptionist for tradespeople, freelancers and small businesses |

Voice technology is within reach of young companies: ElevenLabs, for example, is among the partners of the 2nd batch of STATION F's F/ai programme (26 teams, announced on 23 September 2026).

## Who it is for in France
Trades where you cannot pick up the phone while working: mechanics, plumbers, electricians, roofers, landscapers. The customer is the owner of a small business, who decides alone and quickly but has no time for an online demo.

## The proposed angle (our hypothesis)
Not yet another piece of software. Rather **a setup and follow-up service** around an existing tool, sold to **a single trade in a single area**, in person: configuring the trade's answers, connecting the calendar, monthly fine-tuning. The edge lies in distribution (knowing the local tradespeople) and in knowing the trade, not in the technology. Another option: a trade for which your research turns up no specialised offer; document that research.

## The test
1. Pick a trade and an area. List twenty businesses.
2. Run **ten interviews**: how many calls were missed last week (from the phone log, not an estimate), what happens next, who calls back?
3. Offer a willing tradesperson **a supervised two-week pilot**, including the AI announcement and caller information.
4. Measure: calls handled, appointments booked, errors, time spent correcting.

## Continue if, stop if
Set your thresholds before the interviews. Sample criteria, to adapt:
- **Continue** if several owners show a log of regular missed calls and at least one agrees to a paid pilot.
- **Stop** if most are already equipped and satisfied, call back themselves without losing customers, or refuse to let an AI answer on their behalf.

## The legal framework
- **Identifying as an AI**: since 2 August 2026, an AI system that interacts with people must inform them that they are talking to an AI, unless it is obvious (AI Act, Article 50). The obligation falls on the provider of the system: if you develop the agent and put it into service under your name, that is you.
- **Recording calls**: every caller must be informed at the time of the call of the purpose, the recipients, their right to object and their right of access, for example through a message at the start of the call.
- **Callers' data**: you process it on behalf of the tradesperson. A GDPR-compliant data processing agreement (Article 28) sets out what you do with it and how long you keep it.

## Before launching
- Cost the offer with the [margin calculator](/en/entreprendre/calculateur-marge-saas/) and the [launch budget](/en/entreprendre/budget-lancement/): the amounts are your assumptions.
- During the test, getting paid for a pilot requires a legal structure: [micro-entreprise or company](/en/entreprendre/micro-entreprise-ou-societe-saas/).
- Detailed testing method: [validate an idea before forming your company](/en/entreprendre/valider-idee-saas/).

## Method and limits
Offers identified through web searches and on Product Hunt on 24 October 2026, from their public pages; the list is not exhaustive. No third-party prices are quoted: check each website. The positioning is the one each offer states, not an assessment. The angles and criteria proposed are our hypotheses, to be confirmed by your own interviews.

## FAQ
**Does an AI voice agent have to say it is an AI?**
Yes, since 2 August 2026, unless it is obvious to the caller (AI Act, Article 50). The obligation falls on the provider of the system.

**Do you have to tell callers that the call is being recorded?**
Yes. The CNIL requires every caller to be informed at the time of the call of the purpose, the recipients, their right to object and their right of access.
