TL;DR

France has at least 1253 mapped coworking spaces, in every region: the municipalities with the most are Paris (111), Lyon (60) and Bordeaux (51). For a founder, a coworking space offers an office without a commercial lease, a network and sometimes a support programme. It can only serve as your company's registered address if it holds prefectural approval as a domiciliation provider. The full list, by municipality, is in our dataset.

What to check before you commit

  • The plan: hot desk, fixed desk or private office. Prices are shown on each space's website.
  • The commitment period and notice period.
  • Access hours and the meeting rooms included.
  • The community: a coworking space full of freelancers from the same sector as your clients is as good as a sales network.
  • Support: some spaces are also incubators and give access to competitions and programmes.

Registering your company at a coworking space

Your registered office can be with a domiciliation company, provided it holds prefectural approval and the contract lasts at least 3 months.Service-public Many coworking spaces offer domiciliation: ask for their approval number before you sign. Otherwise, the registered office can be at the director's home: see choosing your company's registered address.

Coworking, incubator, tiers-lieu: the difference

  • Coworking space: a shared workspace, rented by the desk or by the office.
  • Incubator or accelerator: a selective support programme, often with premises. STATION F in Paris only takes members through its programmes.
  • Tiers-lieu (community space): a broader shared venue (workshop, fablab, coworking), often run by an association and outside the big cities.

What the list does not tell you

It covers the spaces mapped by OpenStreetMap contributors: a new space may be missing, and one that has closed may still appear. Check the space's website before you go.

Frequently asked questions

Can a coworking space be used as a registered office?

Yes, if it is approved by the prefecture as a domiciliation company. The domiciliation contract lasts at least 3 months.

How much does a coworking space cost?

It depends on the city and the plan (hot desk, fixed desk, private office). Each space publishes its prices on its website; we do not copy them, as they change often.

How do you get into STATION F?

Only through one of its programmes, such as the free Fighters Program, or its partners' programmes. The Founders Program is paused.
