AI agents that answer an online shop's customers are plentiful, in France as on Product Hunt. The opening, in our hypothesis, is specialisation: an underserved platform, an industry with technical questions, or a setup service built around an existing tool. The best test is run on a shop's real tickets: what share does the agent handle without error? Since 2 August 2026, a chatbot must disclose that it is an AI from the first exchange. Who it is for in France
Independent shops run by a handful of people, where the founder personally answers "where is my order?", sizing questions and returns. Large retailers already have their tools.
The proposed angle (our hypothesis)
- By industry: products that call for advice (spare parts, technical equipment, cosmetics), where a wrong answer costs a return.
- As a service: installing, feeding and monitoring an existing tool for shops that lack the time, with monthly error tracking.
- "In French" is not enough: most of the offerings above already are.
The test
- Get a hundred recent tickets, anonymised, from a willing shop.
- Sort them: repetitive questions, questions that need the order, disputed cases.
- Have an agent answer these tickets, without sending anything to customers. Count the correct answers, wrong answers and those to escalate.
- Show the result to the founder and ask whether they would pay for what comes next.
Continue if, stop if
Sample criteria, to be set before the test:
- Continue if a significant share of tickets is handled without error and the founder agrees to a paid pilot.
- Stop if errors affect sensitive cases (refunds, returns), or if the shop receives too few tickets for the gain to matter.
The legal framework
- Disclosing the AI: since 2 August 2026, people must know they are interacting with an AI, at the latest at the first interaction, unless it is obvious (AI Act, article 50). An agent that introduces itself with a first name and writes like a human adviser does not meet this condition.
- Provider or deployer: if you develop the agent and put it into service under your name, the obligation is yours; if you install a vendor's tool, it stays with that vendor.
- Customer data: conversations and orders are personal data; you process them on the shop's behalf, under a data processing agreement (GDPR, article 28).
- Accurate answers: the agent answers on the merchant's behalf. On returns, it must not contradict the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance purchases.
Service-public
Before you launch
- Price your offering with the margin calculator and the launch budget: the amounts are your assumptions.
- During the test, getting paid for a pilot requires a legal structure: micro-entreprise or company.
- Detailed test method: validate an idea before forming your company.
Method and limitations
Offerings identified through web searches and on Product Hunt on 24 October 2026, based on their public pages; the list is not exhaustive. No third-party pricing is reproduced: check each website. The positioning is what each offering states, not an assessment. The proposed angles and criteria are our hypotheses, to be confirmed by your own interviews.
Frequently asked questions
Does an online shop's chatbot have to say it is an AI?
Yes, since 2 August 2026, at the latest at the first interaction, unless it is obvious (AI Act, article 50).
Who is responsible for this disclosure if I install a vendor's tool?
The article 50 obligation applies to the provider, meaning whoever develops the system and puts it into service under their name. If you develop the agent yourself, that is you.
