Do I need a lawyer to set up my company?

No, it is not mandatory. It is recommended with several shareholders, investors, a shareholders' agreement or contributions in kind.

TL;DR

No, no law requires a lawyer to set up a company. For a simple SASU or EURL, a platform is enough. A lawyer is recommended as soon as the articles of association bind several people: multiple shareholders, investors, a shareholders' agreement, exit clauses, contributions in kind or a holding structure.
